On October 5th, I performed T-Paul Ste Marie's signature poem, live at a Slam event in Montreal, to commemorate his birthday. He would have been 44 years old.
Here is the clip.
If you want to hear/see T-Paul himself do it much, much better than I, check that out here.
The quote in the title is by Emily Dickinson

Oh dearie. That made me cry big tears. It's so circular and beautiful that this is still spoken not only to move the artist in us, but also to invoke his memory, and his passion. Love.
I did not plan to do it. I was covering the slam for the student paper. But when I realised what day it fell on and the fact that it was the inaugural event of the slam season, and in a new location to boot. Well, it felt right to share it, for them and for me and for him. I think it was meant to be.
it was beautiful to hear those words again. You did a fantastic job. I could hear the loss in your voice. It's in all of our voices.
And the link you sent of him... I was there that night. Very strange.
Hey sweet pea,
Your voice has changed since the CKUT. You have become stronger. Lovely to hear you in front of a mic again. Lovely to read your writing rhymes (blogs and such). Thank you for paying tribute. Thank you for speaking up. Love as always.
V.
I have awesome friends.
